Japanese Black Pine - fall workshop

It is now fall, and the Japanese Black Pine has been growing strongly in spite of our horrendous summer heat which shuts down most of our other trees. It has gotten thick with this new growth, and if we do not act now, we will start losing interior growth and our branches will get long and lanky. The work will be different on a refined tree as opposed to a tree still early in its training. The work will also be different if you plan on showing the tree this next season.

The work consists of needle plucking, some branch selection and trimming, some bud selection, wiring, and top soil cleaning. Tools you will use include tweezers (both straight tipped and bent tip), bonsai shears, root shears, soil broom, and top soil dressing. Bring at a minimum bonsai shears and straight tipped tweezers. Also, don't forget to bring your trees. You may also work on some of our Japanese Black Pine stock as well if you wish.
